The results were announced on Saturday 15th March, 1997, as part of the National Lottery Live programme.
Eight songs competed in a semi final round on Radio 2 on 7th February, 1997. Following a phone vote, the top four went forward to the TV final on 9th March.
At the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 in Dublin, Ireland on 3rd May, Love Shine A Light finished first with 227 points – the UK’s first win since 1981. It was conducted by Don Airey. The song reached number three in the UK Top 40 chart.
